Habitat Build Day 6 & 7

Yesterday was day 6 on the worksite. We were a day ahead of schedule so we helped to pour the concrete for the side of the house and the front patio. That was a hard day of work though I have to say it's easier because everybody knew what to do.

Today was our last day of Habitat. We had a few more walls to finish up then we'd finish. I had to stand on scaffolding again. I think I might have overcome my fear of heights. I was not scared at all! Once again we worked quickly and finished by 11:30am. There was a dedication ceremony to present the key and house to Pond and her family. Speeches were said and tears of joy and appreciation were cried by most everyone there. The house is 80% done. The only things left are the ceiling in the house, parging for the exterior and interior walls, painting, tiling the floor and then the door and window installation.

Now we have free time until dinner tonight with the family, habitat workers and the hired workers. Susan and I have been trying to figure out where to go for the next 10 days before we come back up to Chiang Mai to meet up with Melanie (the habitat coordinator we've been working with here) to go with her to her hometown to celebrate the water festival. At first we were going to head to Phuket, Ko Phi Phi and Krabi, but turns out they have been getting unusually heavy rains and floods so we've changed our plans and we'll be heading to Ko Chang and Ko Kood to see some sun and beaches.
